The IRC welcomes a new chair

December, 2022

Jana Fogaca, Ph.D. IRC Chair Assistant Professor, Department of Kinesiology, California State University, Long Beach (Brazil/USA)

Welcome to the AASP International Relations Committee’s (IRC) student newsletter! We are happy to announce that the IRC will have a new chair, starting in 2023: Karen Lo. Karen was an IRC member between 2016 and 2020. She is the first Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC)® of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) in the greater China area. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Karen’s passion for Sport and Performance Psychology stems from being on the HK National Swimming Team for 7 years. Upon graduating from Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology at the University of Hong Kong, she earned a Master of Education in Counseling and Sport Psychology at Boston University, USA. She currently runs her own Sport and Performance Psychology consulting company, Inner Edge Limited. Welcome, Karen!

Please feel free to share this newsletter and the interesting articles within with anyone – you don’t have to be an AASP member to read it. Here is the website that hosts the newsletter, including our previous newsletter issues.
In this issue, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about sport psychology in New Zealand;
  • Discover some of the challenges and opportunities that our member, Renee Appaneal, found when moving from the United States to Australia to work with applied sport psychology;
  • Read about the research conducted by Dr. Malete with positive youth development in Africa; and
  • Receive some advice on how to return to your home country after studying abroad.

We hope that you find this newsletter interesting and helpful for you to navigate international settings. We are extremely interested in your feedback and ideas for future issues. Please email us at aaspirc@gmail.com with suggestions and feedback.
