Updates from the IRC

AASP IRC Chair (Jan 2023 – present)
Greetings from the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) International Relations Committee (IRC)!
The IRC comprises a group of AASP sport psychology internationals with diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultures, all of which are wholeheartedly committed to strengthening and unifying our field. This year we have a total of 13 members – from graduate students to applied practitioners to experienced researchers to university professors – that form our committee.
Our IRC newsletters are published biannually as an open resource to connect with our international counterparts and support international members navigating the challenges of studying and practicing sport psychology. This means that anyone can access our newsletters on our website. Our current July 2023 issue covers the following:
- International Practitioner’s Corner: What it’s like to be an international student practicing sport psychology in Texas (“An Englishman in America”)
- Mentoring tips for international students
- International Researcher’s Corner: An interview with an REBT researcher
- Upcoming events about sport psychology
We hope you find this newsletter interesting and helpful in navigating international settings.
We also want to draw your attention to the upcoming 40th Annual AASP Conference that will be held in Orlando, FL from October 18-21, 2023. This year, AASP is once again offering a hybrid option for those that are unable to travel to the US. We hope you take advantage of this offer – whether it is to gain part of the wonderful conference experience, better understand the translational science between scientific research and real-life environments, or simply to gain CEUs – it would be wonderful to have you over.
If you have questions or feedback, please email us at aaspirc@gmail.com.
With gratitude,
Karen Lo
